Labour Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie has called on labour stakeholders to urgently address the issue of productivity and how to share the gains of efficient production. Speaking at a tripartite forum on the future of work, the Cabinet Secretary noted that productivity is going to be a major factor at the work place in the coming years. 

The future of work forum brought together FKE, the Government and COTU-Kenya under the auspices of the National labour Board in order to find a common position for Kenya in the ongoing International Labour Organization discussions on the future of work.

Speaking at the forum, FKE CEO Jacqueline noted that disruptive changes to employment and enterprises both nationally and at global level will have a profound impact on the employment landscape over the coming years.

Mrs. Mugo further noted that due to the changing work dynamics contributed by globalization, technology and new inventions, the future of work may require that we adapt labour market regulation, accept flexible work arrangements, support new forms of work, design modern migration regulations, facilitate online platforms to match skills/jobs and probably change schools and universities curricula to fit the purpose.

The future of work discussions are part of global talks that will guide future activities of the International Labour Organization. Studies have shown that the world of work is under threat and that technology is replacing many middle level jobs that were once considered 'human'.
