FKE

Nairobi, 9th December 2016: The Federation of Kenya Employers is concerned that the strike in the health sector has entered the third day unresolved. The strike has already led to the loss of lives of many Kenyans besides bringing untold suffering to many others. This situation should not be allowed to persist as it portend disaster in Kenya’s health sector and to many who rely on public health facilities.

FKE calls for the spirit of dialogue to prevail. It is also worrying to see industrial action despite clear court rulings suspending the strike. All parties should therefore adhere to the orders and use negotiation as a way to address the underlying issues.

This strike affects essential services in the country which is not envisaged by the Labour Laws. Whilst the constitution guarantees the right to life, it also guarantees the right to life. FKE therefore appeals to all parties to consider the desperate plight of patients and reach an amicable agreement urgently.
