The FKE Girls and Tech initiative reached Isiolo County with a powerful mission: to Break Barriers and Build Dreams by inspiring and empowering the young girls at St. Mary's Girls Isiolo to pursue STEM subjects and careers.
During the session, the students heard from two professionals—a roads and transport engineer and a software engineer—who shared their personal journeys from childhood dreams to the realities of their careers.
They spoke about the challenges they overcame, the sacrifices they made, and addressed common misconceptions about their fields, providing the girls with a clearer, more realistic understanding of what careers in engineering and technology involve. The mentors emphasized the importance of girls taking up space in the STEM fields and the right subjects that would position them in these courses.
Above all, the session carried a message of hope and resilience. Ms. Grace Kaome, FKE, Human Resource manager, encouraged the girls to dream big, not to let their background define their future, and to work hard despite the challenges. Her message was clear: with hard work and determination, a brighter future is within reach.
