
The 63rd FKE Annual General Meeting (AGM) crowned the regional branch AGMs that happened in the month of April 2022. The National AGM guided by the theme ‘Adapting to the Changing Labour Market in the Face of the General Elections 2022’, took place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Upper hill, Nairobi. Many members attended the event to network and discuss their experiences over the last two years and the emerging challenges.
AGENDA: the key agenda items included
- Present the Federation’s Annual Report and Financial Statements 2021 which highlighted FKE’s achievements and activities.
- Discuss on Adapting to the Changing Labour Market in the Face of the General Elections 2022.
- Conduct Elections for various posts on the Management Board.
- Appreciate retiring Management Board Members.
RESOLUTIONS
From the Agenda of the AGM, the following resolutions were passed:
- Minutes of the 62nd Annual General Meeting held on 22nd July 2021 were confirmed as true deliberations of the meeting.
- The National President’s Report as presented by Dr. Habil Olaka was adopted by members.
- The Annual Report 2021 giving a highlight of FKE’s milestones and achievements as presented by the Executive Director & CEO, Ms Jacqueline Mugo was adopted by members.
FKE’s Auditors BDO East Africa also presented the audited financial statements for the year 2021. The Financial Statements were adopted. BDO EA were retained as the External Auditors for the FY 2022 and members authorized the Management Board to fix their renumeration.

CHIEF GUEST’S REMARKS
Prof. Stephen Kiama, BVM, MSC, PHD, MKNAS the Vice-Chancellor, University of Nairobi graced the National AGM as the Chief Guest, and he gave an address on the AGM theme “Adapting to the Changing Labour Market in the Face of the General Elections 2022”. The following were the highlights of his speech:
“Past electoral seasons have mostly disappointed because of the socio-economic disruptions they cause, especially to businesses and investments. They interrupt critical focus on national development, scare away investments, while diverting essential resources.” Stated Prof. Kiama.
He encouraged employers to strive to be adaptable as a surviving strategy not only in the labour market but also during elections.
REMARKS BY THE CHIEF GUEST
Prof. Stephen Kiama, BVM, MSC, PHD, MKNAS, Vice-Chancellor, Nairobi University (UoN), graced the National AGM as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the below in his speech:
“Past electoral seasons have mostly disappointed because of the socio-economic disruptions they cause, especially to businesses and investments. They interrupt critical focus on national development, scare away investments while diverting essential resources.” Stated Prof. Kiama.
He encouraged employers to strive to be adaptable as a surviving strategy not only in the labour market but also during elections.
He also emphasized the effect of digitalization in the labour market urging employers to be ready for the new reality. He went ahead and touched on other issues that are changing in the labour market such as remote working, employee-employer loyalty, and job redundancy amongst others.
His call to employers:
- Be agile enough to remain relevant in the ever-changing labour market.
- Create functional and effective succession plans that have room for growth and continuous learning in their organizations, eventually encouraging employee loyalty.
- Have frequent training for employees that lead to upskilling which results in efficient productivity in the organization.
ELECTIONS & RETIREMENT
Elections were conducted during the AGM where some Board members were re-elected to the board. They include Dr. Habil Olaka, Ms... Gilda Odera, Mr. Mike Macharia, Dr. Stephen Gitagama, Mr... Cosmas Mutava and Mr. Azym Dossa. Members elected two new Management Board Ms. Anne Owour and Mr. Laurence Okello.
The Federation bid farewell to Mr. Apollo Kiarii, Eng. Erastus Mwongera and Eng. David Onyango served the Federation for over 10 years and were now retiring.
